The Hampden Model SFR-100 consists of a chassis mounted, ten ohm, fifty watt rheostat whose terminals are brought off a DC motor. With the rheostat set for maximum resistance, a portion of the series field current is diverted through the rheostat, thereby weakening the series field strength. As the resistance of the SFR-100 is decreased, a greater portion of the series field current is diverted, resulting in a proportionately weaker series field strength.
