The Hampden Model H-6840 Educational Thermo-Electric Pump demonstrates the Peltier Effect. In 1834, Jean C. A. Peltier discovered that the passage of an electrical current through the junction of two dissimilar conductors cools or heats the junction, depending on the direction of current. It turns out that the heat generation (or absorption rate) is proportional to the magnitude of the current and dependent on the temperature of the junction. The Thermo-Electric effect has applications in the field of mini-temperature control requirements for electronics, space and missile internal guidance systems.

This resistance is due to cohesion of the molecules and molecular transfer from one layer to another setting up a tangential or shear stress. Cohesion predominates in liquids, as temperatures increase cohesion decreases as does viscosity.

The Hampden Model H-6862A Thermo Conduction Demonstrator allows students to investigate in detail the principles of conduction heat transfer. The student is able to determine the relationship governing conduction heat transfer and show that it is dependent on the thermal conductivity of the material, the length of the conducting path, the cross-sectional area of the conduction path, and the temperature gradient. The student is able to determine linear and radial temperature surface contact resistance, conduction through materials with different cross-sectional areas, conduction through insulation, and conduction through composite materials.

The Hampden Model H-6526 Ground Water Flow Tank provides a means of investigating simple three dimensional flow models utilizing sand as a medium.
The Hampden Model H-6850-30 Double-Pipe Heat Exchanger has been developed to permit the experimental determination of the different heat transfer coefficients. Heated air is passed through a tube around which cooling water flows. The air, water and tube temperatures are monitored at the inlet and outlet ports along with the air and water flow rates. In addition, the velocity and temperature profiles within the air tube can also be measured.
The Hampden Model H-6642 Axial Fan Demonstrator provides hands-on introduction to fan performance. The Trainer utilizes differential pressure transducers for flow rate and pressure across the fan, type T thermocouple to record air temperature and photo tachometer transducers to measure fan speed.
The Hampden Model H-6981 Centrifugal Pump Test Demonstrator provides a hands-on introduction to the centrifugal pump allowing exploration of pumping mechanics and their effects.
The Hampden Model H-6822 Refrigeration Cycle Demonstrator provides the student with an introduction to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which states that heat will not pass from a cold region to a hot region without an external agency. The student will be able to observe the evaporator where heat is taken in as the liquid evaporates at low pressure and the condenser where the high pressure vapor condenses and rejects heat. The compressor uses a work input to increase the pressure vapor and the expansion valve controls the flow of liquid from the condenser back to the evaporator.
The Hampden Model H-6720 Refrigeration Unit has been developed to illustrate the characteristics of a large scale refrigeration system. The student will be able to investigate the theoretical performance of the refrigeration cycle and compare it with the performance of the actual cycle. Additionally, the unit serves as a source of chilled water for use in heat transfer experiments.
